Spotted today in Stralsund. The temp plates (Nov. - April) indicate that it’s a winter beater. I don’t think it’s ex police as they tend to take the light bars off and stuff little plastic plugs in the holes, but who knows?

I’m pretty sure their ghost removal success rate in a B5 wagon has been negative.

Ahhh, the Euro-spec B5.5 (aka 3BG). The US versions were covered with chrome trim, not black. This looks like an 04-05 model based on the blinkers in the mirrors.
Probably a tdi if I had to guess. They made a special “PD” version of the 1.9L for a couple years, which was much better than the older 1.9 tdi.

That must be their bait car for catching electrical gremlins.

A tow truck, more than likely.

Like I said earlier, it looks like an ex NEF (Notfalleinsatzfahreug). Those Mickey Mouse indicators are typical for NEFs.

I think FSI was right, suggesting that it was a Notartz car, a police car wouldn’t have those additional blinkers. (or at least I’ve ever only seen those on a Notartz car, and never on a police car in Germany)
edit: apparently NEF means something different than I thought...

Ah, now I get it. I couldn’t make sense of that acronym.

After over 6 months at a rescue organization I learned a whole lot of acronyms.
